An Evening of Translation featuring Olivia Sears and Terry Ehret & Nancy J. Morales

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20TH | 7PM
Mill Valley Public Library | Creekside Room

*With special guests Francesca Bell, Susan Cohen, and Meryl Natchez.*

Join us as we celebrate the work of poetry translation by hearing from some exciting Bay Area translators. The evening will feature Olivia Sears, who will read from her new translation of Ardengo Soffici's strange and phenomenal 1915 book of Italian poetry, Simultaneities and Lyric Chemisms, and Nancy J. Morales and Terry Ehret, who will share work from Ulalume González de León's Plagios/Plagiarisms. The reading will also include translations from German, Yiddish, and Russian from Francesca Bell, Susan Cohen, and Meryl Natchez. Come hear about these exciting new projects!

Olivia E. Sears is founder of the Center for the Art of Translation and the journal Two Lines, which she edited for more than a decade. Her translations have appeared widely in journals such as Poetry International, and Jubilat. She is a graduate of Yale University with a doctorate in Italian literature from Stanford University.

Terry Ehret, one of the founders of Sixteen Rivers Press, has published four collections of poetry, most recently Night Sky Journey from Kelly’s Cove Press. Her literary awards include the National Poetry Series, the California Book Award, and the Pablo Neruda Poetry Prize. From 2004–2006, she served as the poet laureate of Sonoma County.

Nancy J. Morales, a first-generation American of Puerto Rican parents, earned her bachelor’s degree from Rutgers College, a master’s in teaching English as a Second Language from Adelphi University, and a doctorate in education from Teachers College at Columbia University. She lives in Napa County with her husband and son.
