Poetry Organizations:

The Hudson Valley Writers Center – Active nonprofit writers center hosting workshops, readings, and community events. 

The Community of Writers – Continues as an annual writers' conference in California (Olympic Valley), with ongoing workshops and programs. 

Napa Valley Writers’ Conference – Active, with scheduled annual conference dates and faculty announcements for 2026. 

Omnidawn Publishing – Active independent nonprofit press publishing poetry and holding contests and community events. 

Ellen Bass – The poet and author is active (publishing, events, readings, etc.); her professional website and events are current. 

San Francisco State Poetry Center – Active as the Poetry Center at San Francisco State University with ongoing public readings and archival work. 

Left Margin LIT (LIT) – Active creative writing community and workspace in Berkeley offering classes and events (2026 listings visible). 

AWP / Association of Writers & Writing Programs – A major, long-running writers’ organization (still active with large annual conference and resources). 

Bay Area Book Festival – Active annual literary festival with recent 2025 programming and upcoming events. 

Litquake – Active San Francisco Bay Area literary festival with year-round programs and 2025 edition documented. 

The Writers Grotto (likely “The Grotto” on your list) – Active writers’ community with classes and events for writers. 

Mechanics’ Institute (Library) – Active institution hosting cultural events, including literary talks that often tie into festivals like Litquake. 

ESCOM / College of Marin’s Adult Education Center – ESCOM (Emeritus Students of College of Marin) is active as a senior/student community group with classes including creative writing.
