We hope you’ll join us to celebrate National Poetry Month with the powerful work of Tshaka Campbell and Dorianne Laux! (Also, some homemade strawberry shortcake. A poem unto itself.)
Tshaka Campbell was born in London, England but grew up in America. He has been writing and performing his work for over fifteen years and has performed across the globe at a number of venues and colleges, from the Apollo Theater in New York to the O2 in London, England. His work is widely published in magazines, poetry anthologies and periodicals, as well as in advertising campaigns with companies such as Nissan and Miramax Studios. He has authored two books entitled TARMAN and MUTED WHISPERS and 2 Albums entitled ONE and BLOODLINES. The winner of two Grand Slam Champion titles and the first black poet laureate of Santa Clara County, Campbell lives in San Jose and continues to ask the world to listen differently.
Dorianne Laux’s sixth collection, Only As the Day is Long: New and Selected Poems was named a finalist for the 2020 Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. Her fifth collection, The Book of Men, was awarded The Paterson Prize. Her fourth book of poems, Facts About the Moon, won The Oregon Book Award and was short-listed for the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize. Laux is also the author of Awake; What We Carry, a finalist for the National Book Critic’s Circle Award; Smoke; as well as a fine small press edition, The Book of Women. She is the co-author of the celebrated text The Poet's Companion: A Guide to the Pleasures of Writing Poetry. Her latest collection is Life On Earth, released in January.
