Petaluma Poetry Walk

Sun, September 15, 2024, 11:00 am - 8:00 pm
Third Sunday in September

Marin Poetry Center will kick off our 2024-2025 Reading Series season with an event at the wonderful Petaluma Poetry Walk featuring Ellery Akers and Lee Rossi. MPC's event will occur from 4 pm to 5 pm at Usher Gallery at 1 Petaluma Boulevard North. Check out the Poetry Walk's entire lineup at Petaluma Poetry

Ellery Akers is the author of four poetry books, most recently, A Door into the Wild: Poetry and Art. Her previous collection, Swerve Environmentalism, Feminism, and Resistance, won BookAuthority’s Best Environmentalism Books of All Time Award. She’s won multiple other awards, including an IPPY Award and the Poetry International Prize. Her poetry has been featured on National Public Radio, Poetry, and The New York Times Magazine. Akers is also an award-winning visual artist, and her artwork has been exhibited in museums and galleries nationally, including the San Diego Museum of Art, the Anchorage Museum, and the Marin Museum of Contemporary Art.,

Lee Rossi hates labels. Although he has lived in California almost all of his adult life, he is not a West Coast poet, not a Beat, nor Buddhist, nor eco-poet, although once in a while you will hear echoes of all three. He is not a formalist, even though on occasion he’ll write a sonnet, a villanelle, a pantoum, a ghazal, a duplex, or even a golden shovel. He is not a poet-activist, although criticism of American politics and culture runs throughout his work. Unlike Whitman, he does not contain multitudes, but only his elusive self, its cacophony of ideas and opinions.
